Individuals who lack a high school diploma will find it hard to compete in the job market. Most jobs, even entry-level jobs require individuals hold a high school diploma. Individuals who do not have a high school diploma can turn to the General Education Development or GED.

GED test results will help an individual to show high school level competencies for the United States or Canada. Online preparation can be used to ensure that you will have high results on your first try. The standards for passing  depend from one jurisdiction to the next and there are a lot of different ways that individuals can choose to prepare for their test online as well as offline. However, it has to be taken on site in person. Having a GED can allow you to become eligible for higher paid employment or to begin college. By using GED test online practice and review materials, you’ll maximize your chances of passing the test.

What is the GED Test?

It measures educational competency and is designed to test for knowledge equivalent to that obtained through a high school education. A GED is the most widely accepted form of high school equivalency diploma. The American Council on Education oversees and develops GED preparation materials, GED test online information and results as well as all other matters pertaining to the GED.

Who can take the GED Test?

There are some eligibility requirements determining who can take the test. Testers cannot be currently enrolled in high school or have a high school diploma. Testers must also be at least 16 years of age.

States and territories may impose additional eligibility requirements as to who can and cannot take the test, including age and residency requirements. When you review the  test online, you’ll often find additional information by state, province or municipality.

What does the GED cover?

The test consists of 5 different areas of knowledge, covering the same ground as the average high school education.

The Language Arts, Writing section is broken down into two different areas. Part one consists of multiple-choice questions and evaluates an individual’s ability to properly proofread for correct structure, grammar, capitalization, punctuation, organization, and mechanics of sentences.

Part two of the language arts writing section requires testers write an essay on a topic given. Passing  requires testers write a well-focused and readable essay, sentence structure and spelling are also looked at.

The Language Arts, Reading section covers an individual’s ability to read and comprehend information and a practice  test online can be used to prepare for this subject area.

The Social Studies portion covers history, geography and civics. The Science portion of the  test includes questions on physics, earth and life sciences and space which are generally covered by high school science courses.

The GED test’s math section contains questions on algebra, geometry, statistics and number operations as well as probability. One part allows the use of a calculator, while the  results for the other must be obtained without this assistance.

What is Passing Score?

In order to pass, GED test results of 410 (on a scale of 200-800) on each section are needed and a total score of 2250 is required to earn a passing grade.

Where can the test be completed?

There are over three thousand different GED test locations in the US and Canada. It may be administered over a few sessions on different days or in one day long session. The GED exam can be done in about 7-8 hours of testing time.

The location will also determine the fee; some areas provide the test free, higher range prices for the test may be around $100. Your GED test results may be given almost immediately or may take several weeks depending on area.
